How to properly maintain your split system air conditioner

Home & Garden Blog

Split system air conditioning has the ability to cool and heat many different rooms at the same time by only using one unit. Therefore, it's important to maintain that unit to make sure that the temperature is kept on an optimal level while also making sure that the air conditioning unit won't have to struggle to keep it that way. In order to save money, extend the life length of your air conditioner and make sure that you get the best possible performance out of your unit, there are a few things you should think about when it comes to air conditioner maintenance.

Filters

One of the most important things to do when maintaining your split system air conditioner is to make sure that the filters in the unit are clean. Clogged or dirty filters can cause the performance of your air conditioner to worsen, or force your air conditioner to use more electricity to maintain an even temperature in all of your rooms. Examine your filters often, and remember that they tend to get dirty faster if your house is dirty. If only dust has collected in the filters, it might be enough to just vacuum them. However, if they are completely clogged, you'll need to soak the filter in water to get it as clean as possible. Some air conditioners, like many Daikin units, have a self cleaning function. If that is the case with your split system air conditioner, you'll only have to activate that regularly to make sure the filters are clean.

Lubrication

You should also remember to lubricate the fan and the engine to your air conditioning unit regularly to get the most out of it. Lubrication minimises the risk of the parts wearing on each other, which can extend the life length of your air conditioner as wear can cause your unit to fail prematurely. It also helps the fan blades go round with a minimum of resistance, meaning the air conditioner won't have to use as much power to work.

Coil

You should also think about cleaning the coil to your unit. As this often is mounted outdoors, it's common for leaves and debris to block it. Flush it with a hose regularly to make sure it's clean. Just remember to be careful as you're washing it, as there are electrical components nearby that shouldn't get wet. Clean carefully and don't use your hose with full power, as this makes it more difficult to control where the water goes.

Home Truths: Decorating Through The Years

I am the proud mother of nine grown up children! There wasn't much money around when they were little, so I was always sewing, knitting, growing vegetables and generally being self-sufficient. Now that they have their own households, you would think that I could rest a little, but I am busier than ever. I am blessed that my children and their partners are talented and have good jobs. However, they are very busy, so most of their home decorating is left up to me. From making curtains to painting bathrooms, I always have at least one project on the go. To tell the truth, I really enjoy it and it makes me feel that all my skills gained over the years are useful. I thought that people might like to read this blog which shares a lot of tips and ideas. I really hope you enjoy scanning through these pages.
